Success Story: Thierry Schellenbach

“This course has been instrumental in us getting up to speed quickly on WebRTC. It has enabled us to ship a global edge network of video servers and really understand some of the details around things like SDP munging that the team over at WebRTC explain so well.”

What were your biggest challenges before the WebRTC course?

My name is Thierry Schellenbach, and I am the founder and CEO of GetStream. We are an API for building activity feeds and chat. We do that for over a billion end users, and recently we started working on video, which is why I am on this call.

The team and myself have a lot of experience with Go, and with programming. We power some of the world’s largest apps, but we had never done anything with WebRTC. I had personally never done anything with WebRTC and I took several free courses.

The free courses did not really teach you much other than the basics, which is when I found the WebRTC course. It has been very helpful in getting me up to speed on WebRTC, understanding how it works, and eventually building an edge network for video around the world.

What results did you see after signing up for the WebRTC Courses?

Stream is in better shape today because this course enabled me to get up to speed quickly on WebRTC, to learn the basics and advanced things, but also to see all the possibilities that are out there.

There is this interesting thing called the ‘WebRTC Fiddle of the Week’. I really enjoyed seeing all the different examples and edge cases that you can run into. It showed a lot of possible race conditions that you can get in WebRTC, as well as issues that you can have with codecs and other devices.

What makes the WebRTC Courses a good choice?

If you start googling WebRTC related questions, you will find this course or answers that were written by the authors of this course. It made us feel confident.

I am quite busy. Stream is now 120 people, so it is a relatively large company. I wanted to know the technical details about WebRTC myself and understand how it works as we were moving into this market. This course was the most efficient way for me to get up to speed and I really enjoyed it.

Who would you recommend the WebRTC Courses to?

I would recommend this course to anyone that is looking to learn about WebRTC and wants to really understand the full range of errors that you can get, rather than just the basics.
